Why Technical People Fail as Managers?

Why Technical People Fail as Managers?

Often you see in Software companies that they make technical people as Managers and over time they realize he is not a good Manager. The following some of the my observations over the years:-

To be a Development or Test Manager you need to be strong in Project Management, Development Management, Test Management, Process Management, People Management, Technical Management, Communication and Stakeholder Management mainly. But you will notice many of the technical Managers often does not have all the qualities listed above to play the role and they get sucked in to lot of technical work daily and lose track of the people and employee motivation, tuning the strategies, etc. leading to teams frustrated and losing the bigger picture and release taking longer time impacting schedule or/and quality.
